I had the same problem when I installed openSuse 10.3 as I did when I upgraded to openSuse 11, in regards to a dual monitor set up. The nVidia drivers just did not give the option for dual monitor.
The first time through a good friend of mine helped me out with the problem. And determined that the wrong video driver was installed, which was true. We thought that perhaps this was the same problem this time around. But after checking we had the correct drivers.
After a few hours of searching the web for the answer and looking at the logs I spoted the problem. It was not that the wrong drivers were installed this time, but that for some reason the kernel part of the drivers were not being loaded at boot time, even though they were there. Not sure why, but the openSuse install went slightly haywire.
So I logged out, switched to the console and used Yast2 to complete remove the driver and re-install. After reboot, everything was okay. I once again had a dual monitor openSuse 11 workstation.
